AUSTRALIA!
Yes, Australia rocked, and yes, we are failures for taking so long to get these blogs and photos up about our trip. My parents came out and watched Katie for 10 days while Jenny and I whisked away to the Land Down Under for some fun in the sun. Fun fact – Australians think that the song “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” is idiotic, probably because none of them have had one before, as it was 38° C while we were there (that about 100° F for you non-metric folks reading this post).
The trip getting to Australia alone was a bit of an ordeal, as we had to take the train to Tokyo, fly to Bangkok, switch planes and fly to Sydney. On the upside, Thai Airways rocks – and should anyone in their publicity department want to view this as free advertising and reward me with a free upgrade the next time I fly with them, that’ll be OK by me.
Yep, a Rolls Royce engine. They’ve come a long way from putting engines in Spitfires …
Once we got into Sydney after about 36-hours of non-stop travel, it was about 8 AM. We couldn’t get on our ship, the Sun Princess, for a few hours, so we bummed around the harbor area until we could get into our room. I guess that since we were repeat customers on Princess Cruise lines we swung a free upgrade, because when we cracked into our room, we had gotten an upgrade to a balcony room. Pretty sweet for the views …
Ok, so I’ll admit that the view of an industrial wharf isn’t what most people would call “sweet”, but once we got underway, our room had a view of the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera House as we headed out to sea. Totally worth the trip just for those pictures.
